Meeting of the Minds 2020 - Critical Impact September 8 - 10 2020
My work mission: Save lives, build jobs and disrupt poverty through learning. Never changed; never will.
Interdisciplinary technologist, nerd-with-attitude, intellectual ronin, near-futurist, educational entrepreneur, and workforce and economic development professional for more than 35 years (but not the same one 35 times).
My career includes being fortunate enough to have and lead the teams that built the U.S.’s largest university-based corporate training, the best Center for Quality in the world, initiated pioneering efforts in online education, the most comprehensive Community College workforce and economic development center in California and shaping policy and practice while at the California Community Chancellor’s office.
For the last five years I have focused on technology and educational startups (six!) in areas such as VR, predictive data analysis, employer/educator engagement platforms, and online and interactive innovation training as well as best practices for creating solution centers, incubators and accelerators – for both private companies and non-profits.
B.A. summa cum laude from the University of Colorado; Master’s Degree in Ethnography from the University of Michigan (with the first Distinguished Pass for his doctoral preliminary work); and Senior Scholar and Fellow at University College, London. Author of articles in everything the Cambridge University Journal of Society and History, the Proceedings of the American Society for Quality, the World Futures Society, and 2300, The World Hacker Quarterly. I am currently working to complete my book Generation: Evolving Beyond Innovation.
I’ve been truly fortunate to have spent his life surrounded by three extraordinary women. I live in northern California with my wife of forty years and a cat about whom I have mixed feelings.
